The 11th Worst Thing About Wrockstock

As Wrockstock approaches, new and more interesting reasons to hate the only wizard-rock centered convention (that happens to give their left-over profits to charity) appear.

11. No firearms are allowed.  When you have 250 people who are predominantly between the ages of teenager and young adult cooped up in a relatively small area for an entire weekend, it’s inevitable that drama will ensue.  And what fun is drama if there won’t be pistols at dawn?

Real article will be up tomorrow (Thursday) – it’s written, but requires a lot of extra prep.  Hopefully an article on Friday as well?

Love it. Really, it’s the lack of HatP that makes it difficult for me to justify going out. I lovelovelovelove all of the people involved and the other bands are fabulous- but if I have to choose between a summer con with HatP and a wizard rock-tastic weekend, I have to go with the Degeorge brothers. Those guys know how to party.

Brad… I see you saying this a lot. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that they have been invited over and over, but the Potters just haven’t been able to come… mostly due to Joe’s work & school schedule.
I see you posting pro-HatP type comments like that a lot. And yes, they are GREAT… a great band and great people.
But there’s a LOT of great bands and great people in wizard rock and I hate to see you limiting your own enjoyment by being so polarized over HatP’s presence.
It’s no skin off my nose if people come to WS or not… but I don’t like seeing that the entire event being boycotted over ONE band’s absence. It’s like refusing to see a really awesome movie just because one of your favorite actors isn’t in it.
Just a lil’ unsolicited advice from someone who’s been a fan since HatP WAS the only wizard rock band. 😉

Oh, and speaking from real experience… Diagon Alley is the hardest partying band in wrock. Trust me. As much as I adore them, the Bros DeGeorge got nothin’ on the ChiTown Five. 😉

Seriously, Brad, having been to several various cons and HatP shows, NO ONE parties like Wrockstock.. That’s just the truth of the matter.

So, I do hate to be dumping on you like everyone else, but I just wanted to point out a couple things. First of all, I would caution using any band as a binary logic gate, both to not attend if they aren’t there, and to attend if they are there. After all, you may end up getting burned like people at Infinitus when only Paul showed up and told a couple jokes. Now, I would be HIGHLY surprised if this happened at Leaky, but still. Also, you just have to take the cost into consideration. Currently, Leaky11 is a cool thousand bucks, and that is just for registration and hotel, not counting the flight, getting into the park, the movie, keynotes, and spending money for the park, merch tables, etc. I expect Wrockstock to set me back about 1000 TOTAL. I mean, I know there’s lots of other awesome stuff at Leaky, but it is it really worth it for one show? Now, I don’t know where you live… though I do know your IP… gimme a sec. Okay, Ontario. Sweet. I love the internet. Anyway, if you lived in the US, especially the Eastern US, I would have said just wait for a HatP concert. But I can see your point if you live in Canada. And there are lots of other bands playing at Leaky, and other awesome stuff too.

It just comes down to the money for me, and I would rather get more (and more varied) wizard rock for half the price, and no one band being or not being there is gonna make or it break it for me. I mean, HMS Wolfstar isn’t playing, but I’m still going… 😉

Yeah, but the pistols end the drama too quickly. You can charge more for tickets if they have to go at it with their bare hands.

You’re welcome! You are definitely right – you should stop bludging, Mr. or Mrs. Spambot, I think you’d be better at chasing or seeking, instead. However, you definitely aren’t a keeper.

My contact details, oh spambot, are in a few places on this site, but you can always contact me at

No, I don’t know why particularly I think that giving a spambot my email is a good idea, nor why they have chosen this post, of all posts, to make their nest.

Hello there! I could have sworn I’ve been to your blog before but after browsing through some of the posts I realized it’s new to me. Anyhow, I’m certainly happy I found it and I’ll be book-marking it and checking back often!

    • wrocksnob
      May 18, 2013 @ 11:01:38

I just want to take the time to point out that a lot of these spambots are registered through email accounts, which is just strange more than anything. And they’re all different ones. Did someone hack a bunch of harvard emails to leave spam comments on a relatively obscure music review blog? Or is there some exploit making it easy to create your own email accounts? One would think that would be difficult, but The Social Network would have you believe otherwise…

You’re very welcome. I feel I laid down the challenges of legally shooting someone in cold blood at a festival devoted to music about an English orphan wizard boy with bad eyesight fairly well.

When I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there an easy method you are able to remove me from that service? Appreciate it!

Of all the posts you could have picked, spambot, this sure at one point seemed like an innocuous enough one to have notifications on for, but got damn do you and your brethren love this post. I am so, so sorry.

Yes, the issue of bringing guns to wizard rock festivals has been hotly contested since at least the 50’s. Will we ever come to a real answer? We may never know.

The desert inquiry areas in this chapter are all located along or near the Virid river, with the exception of Hibernate Extended elevation WSA. The Uintah and Ouray Indian Suppression separates Hibernate Extended elevation WSA from the Virid river passage. If you look at a Utah highway map, you’ll heed that this entire district appears roadless. I-70 runs along the southern cutting side, with US 191 to the occident and north. In places, Destruction Ravine (cut by the Virid river) is 3,000 to 5,000 feet of great depth. This uneven canyon and its tributaries are not the only farthest terrain that bound adit via paved highways. The 250-mile-long book Cliffs divide the civilized creation from this expansion of desert inquiry areas. At short intervals, bourn lines between desert inquiry areas are uneven filth roads agreeable for jeeps and other 4WD vehicles with lofty clearance. This trail conduct includes descriptions of Rtrail Ravine to Joe Springs.
